Palpa is situated at the western part of Nepal in Palpa district. The town has houses strongly influenced by traditional Newari architecture. The name "Tansen" has its origin in the Magar language, meaning "northern settlement". Palpa with its diverse culture and religion falls in the twelve Magar regions of West Nepal. The town itself is located at an altitude of 1350 metres above sea level and it is one of the most renowned summer resorts of western Nepal. In the surroundings there are many traditional villages to visit and the Shree Nagar Hill offers scenic mountain views.
